The hydraulic tappets or unique eccentric bushing system of the early cars was changed to solid adjustable tappets in 1938, and an overdrive gearbox was added that year, the ratio change being contained in the gearbox rather than in a separate unit. An example tested in 1938 by The Autocar returned a top speed of 87.5 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of 16.8 seconds, with fuel consumption of 10 miles per gallon.
