The Phantom III was introduced in 1936, replacing the Phantom II, as the final large pre war Rolls-Royce and the only V12 Rolls-Royce until the Silver Seraph was introduced in 1998. It was the first of the three V12 powered Phantoms. In 1934 Rolls-Royce, newly in control of W.O. Bentley's firm, had bought a Cadillac V-16 and shipped it to England for study, and W.O. Bentley spent more than 10,000 miles behind its wheel.
