For 1988 the slant six engine was replaced by a 3.9 liter fuel injected V6 engine first introduced with the Dodge Dakota. The 5.2 liter 318 cubic inch engine, on which the 3.9 liter V6 is based, also received electronic fuel injection in 1988. The 1988 Ram was a first generation full size pickup, and the Ram 100 models, reintroduced in 1984, were still sold beside the Ram 150, 250 and 350. The Ram was built by Chrysler and sold by Dodge.
