The Plymouth Backpack is a compact pickup truck concept vehicle that Plymouth unveiled at the 1995 Chicago Auto Show. Its 2+2 seating offered El Camino-style versatility, carrying two passengers easily with room left for a small integrated laptop table inside the cabin, and a built-in bike rack sat on the back. Chrysler design chief Tom Gale, who wanted the concept to show not what Plymouth is today but what it would become, designed the sporty truck. The Backpack was based on the Dodge Neon platform and used a Mopar 2-liter overhead-cam straight-four engine producing 135 horsepower that sent power to the front wheels.
