The Ford Pampa was a coupe utility, a car-based pickup with its own load bed, built by Ford do Brasil at São Bernardo do Campo from 1982 until 1997. Ford derived it from the Corcel II and later the Del Rey, keeping a car's front end and cabin but fitting a rigid rear axle on semi-elliptical leaf springs so that it could carry loads of up to 620 kilograms. It was the second small pickup of its kind in Brazil after the Fiat Fiorino and became the best-selling coupe utility in the country for several years, prompting Volkswagen's Saveiro and Chevrolet's Chevy 500. A four-wheel-drive version arrived for 1984 and was the only Brazilian pickup derived from a two-wheel-drive car to be offered that way. Engines grew from a 1.6-litre unit that ran on petrol or alcohol to a 1.8-litre Volkswagen AP-1800, and more than 350,000 had been sold when production ended and the Fiesta-based Courier took its place.
