The Ford Model U was a concept pickup manufactured by Ford and first introduced at the 2003 North American International Auto Show, designed as a modern twenty-first century interpretation of the original Ford Model T. It used a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder supercharged, intercooled hydrogen internal combustion engine with a hybrid electric transmission, which lived up to PZEV standards. Its exterior was soy-based and its interior highly automated, with a power-retractable canvas roof that let it go from an SUV to a pickup truck with an automatic retractable rear, and an interior slot system to reduce clutter. The car was about 95 percent recyclable and never meant for production.
