The Ford Atlas was a concept pickup truck that Ford showed at the 2013 North American International Auto Show as a close preview of the 2015 F-150, particularly a mix between the Platinum and Limited trims. It showcased the model line's transition to aluminium-intensive construction, which saved about 700 pounds against a steel-bodied equivalent of the existing F-150 SuperCrew in size, along with measures to improve fuel economy such as unprecedented active wheel shutters, active grille and bumper air dam aerodynamics and a tailgate decklid spoiler. It debuted the second generation of Ford's 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, unchanged in displacement but with added start-stop capability to reduce idling. Styled as a sharper-edged evolution of the thirteenth-generation F-Series with quad LED headlamps and taillamps, it also had a redesigned tailgate step and hidden cargo ramps in the bed for wheeling items in, and a five-passenger interior.
