The Dodge Sidewinder was a concept vehicle that Dodge showed at the SEMA convention in Las Vegas in 1997, officially called the Dodge Dakota Sidewinder. It grew from a design by Chrysler's Mark Allen, only two years after he graduated from design school, and was envisioned as the futuristic version of a Dodge Dakota convertible. A front-mounted Viper GTS-R engine powered the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission, on a chassis built by Riley and Scott. The engine was rated at 640 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque, which let the Sidewinder reach 60 miles per hour in just under four seconds, and its top speed was given as 170 miles per hour.
