The Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution is an off-road competition car based on the Mitsubishi Pajero, designed to win the Dakar Rally and the other rally raids. To homologate it for the Dakar Rally's production-based T2 class, Mitsubishi also built a road-legal version, the V55W, from 1997 to 1999, with about 2,500 to 2,700 produced. It followed the second-generation Pajero but was a two-door with large fender flares, two fin-like rear spoilers and a hood scoop, powered by a 3.5 litre 24-valve DOHC V6 6G74 with MIVEC claiming 275 bhp. It had double wishbone front suspension, a unique multi-link rear, four-wheel drive with front and rear Torsen differentials, skid plates and mudflaps. Pajeros won the Dakar 12 times between 1985 and 2007, the most for any manufacturer, with 150 stage wins, a record Guinness World Records recognised.
