Jeep CJ-6

Automobiles

The Jeep CJ-6 was the long-wheelbase version of the CJ-5, a civilian Jeep stretched by 20 inches (51 cm) to give a wheelbase of 101 inches from 1955 to 1971 and 103.5 inches from 1972 to 1981. It began as the military M170 jeep ambulance in 1953 and the civilian Willys Jeep CJ-6 debuted in 1955 as a 1956 model. The longer chassis allowed several configurations, including a second row of seats, and it shared the CJ-5 engines: the Willys Hurricane four, a Perkins diesel option from 1961 to 1965, the Buick Dauntless V6 from 1965 and a V8 from 1972. It was never very popular in the United States, where sales ended after 1975, and most production went to Sweden and South America, with assembly in South Africa and Israel. Production totalled 50,172 when the series ended in 1981. The U.S. Forest Service used some.
