The Ford Mustang Boss 302 was a high-performance variant of the Ford Mustang, built by Ford in 1969 and 1970 and revived for a two year run in 2012 and 2013. The first cars were developed to meet the homologation rules of the SCCA Trans-Am road racing series, which limited engines to 5 litres, and they were Ford's answer to the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. The 302 cubic inch G-code V8 was based on a unique thin-wall, high-nickel small-block casting with solid lifters and four-bolt mains, rated at 290 horsepower, and came only in a complete package with a four-speed manual gearbox, front disc brakes and larger sway bars. Larry Shinoda styled it with a front spoiler and rear deck wing, and Ford won the 1970 Trans-Am title with it.
