Ford Interceptor

Automobiles

The Ford Interceptor was a concept car that debuted at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, a retro-styled full-size sedan giving a modern interpretation of the sporty American muscle cars of the 1960s such as the Ford Galaxie. Ford introduced it in a company press release dated 31 December 2006 and said its styling was influenced, much like a Marine in dress uniform, by looking smart and elegant while showing the raw power beneath. It used a Ford Racing 5.0-litre Cammer engine producing 600 horsepower, or 447 kilowatts, able to run on E85 ethanol and mated to a six-speed manual, an upgraded variant of the 4.6-litre modular engine that powered the Mustang GT until 2011. The car had a powered clamshell shaker hood over the engine and was based on a stretched version of the rear-wheel-drive Mustang's Ford D2C platform with a solid rear axle. Ford had no production plans for such a sedan, which looks extremely unlikely now that almost all of its sedans are discontinued, although some design cues later appeared on the sixth-generation Ford Taurus.
