The first Morris 1100 and MG 1100 cars were produced at Cowley in March 1962, and the vehicle was launched as the Morris 1100 on 15 August 1962, with the two door saloon for export only. The twin carburettor MG 1100 was introduced at the end of September 1962. In Denmark the Morris 1100 four door saloon was introduced in August 1962, where it went on sale as the Morris Marina. It was assembled at Cowley by BMC.
