The third generation was only built in Laem Chabang, Thailand, and was also exported to Japan between 1997 and 1999. Sales in the Japanese domestic market of the second generation continued into the middle of 1997. The Japanese sales discontinued after three years due to shifting emissions and customer preference in Japan in the 1990s. In Japan it was previously sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza. The Triton is a mid-size pickup truck, also known as the Mitsubishi L200, produced by Mitsubishi Motors.
