The first generation Town Box went on sale in April 1999, a mid engined, rear wheel drive kei car with a short bonnet and optional four wheel drive, more passenger oriented than the Bravo series, with separate rear chairs rather than a bench. In June 1999 the 1.1 liter Town Box Wide was presented, which was wider and longer since it was not a kei car, and was also made under licence in Malaysia as the Proton Juara. The Town Box was a mid-engined kei car with a short bonnet.
