In addition to numerous facelifts over the years, there was a major suspension change from rear leaf to coil springs in late 2000. The Pajero Sport of 2000 was the fifth model year, a mid size SUV with the 3 liter V6 in North America and a range of turbo diesel engines elsewhere, built in Japan at first. In Japan it was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza. It was based on the Strada pickup of the same vintage and served as a smaller model to the larger Pajero.
