The Pajero Sport of 1998 was the third model year of the first generation, a body on frame SUV like the Pajero, with independent front suspension with torsion bars and a live rear axle. Markets outside of North America also had a variety of turbo diesel four cylinder engines to choose between. It was sold as the Montero Sport in the United States. It was based on the Strada pickup of the same vintage and served as a smaller model to the larger Pajero.
