From 2017 onwards a diesel particulate filter was standard on the Pajero, along with a reduction of 4 kW in peak power, while torque remained the same. The Dakar rally machines of the late 1990s had featured exclusive designs and engines engineered for the rally, such as the 6G7 Di-D quad turbo diesel and a 4.0 liter V6 petrol. The fourth generation was in its twelfth year. The Pajero Sport, which shared its name, was built on the Triton platform and was smaller in size.
