At the 2015 New York International Auto Show Mitsubishi debuted a heavily revised Outlander for the 2016 model year. During 2015 the Outlander plug-in hybrid surpassed the Leaf as the all time top selling plug-in passenger car in Europe, with global sales of about 42,400 units in 2015, 24.6 percent of the Outlander lineup, making the plug-in hybrid for a second year in a row the world's best selling plug-in hybrid. Global sales of the Outlander achieved 1.5 million in October 2016, fifteen years after launch.
