A larger and completely redesigned Minicab, the U40 series, was released in February 1991 to take full advantage of tax rules that allowed larger kei dimensions and engine capacity. Three new 660 cc engines were introduced, a four valve SOHC unit, a five valve DOHC unit for the Bravo only, and a two valve SOHC unit. The high roof truck was discontinued, and vans were two seaters only in Japan. The Minicab was sold in Japan at a specific retail chain called Galant Shop.
