In 1999 the seventh generation Lancer was in its fifth year, with the Lancer Evolution VI among its World Rally Championship winning iterations. The wagon and van continued as the Lancer Wagon and the Libero in Japan until 2003. The next Lancer, the Lancer Cedia, would be released in Japan in May 2000, while this Mirage based car continued for a while longer in most other markets. In Japan the Lancer was sold at Galant Store dealers and the Mirage at Car Plaza.
