On 1 April 2024 China Motor Corporation confirmed that the Grand Lancer had ended production, marking the end of the Lancer nameplate after 51 years. Mitsubishi had ended worldwide production in August 2017 except in Taiwan, where the extensively facelifted Grand Lancer, designed by CMC with Pininfarina Shanghai, carried on. Over six million Lancers were sold between 1973 and 2008 alone, in ten generations. It was built on the platform of the earlier Lancer as an extensive facelift.
