The refreshed Lancer EX was launched in 2016 with two trim levels in one market, the GLS with a 1.6 liter 4A92 MIVEC engine and five speed manual, and the GT-A with a 2.0 liter engine, and it was released in the Philippines in April 2016 as the GLS and GT-A. Local production under the Lancer name in China continued until 2016. It was the tenth year of the ninth generation. Between its introduction in 1973 and 2008 over six million Lancers were sold.
