The Taiwanese market Lancer Fortis and iO were simultaneously facelifted in May 2014, with the global Lancer updated in April 2014 as well. Mitsubishi intended to supply the United Kingdom with 400 further Lancers in late 2014. The ninth generation was in its eighth year, still a compact sedan, with the Evolution X performance model built on it. The Lancer Evolution X was built on this generation. Between its introduction in 1973 and 2008 over six million Lancers were sold.
