The Lancer was updated in August 2012 and April 2014, and in February 2012 Mitsubishi discontinued the Fortis based iO and launched the global Lancer locally under the iO nameplate in Taiwan. The mid range GLS trim was discontinued in 2012. The ninth generation was in its sixth year, with a 2.0 liter engine, sold in Japan as the Galant Fortis and as the Lancer Fortis in Taiwan. The Lancer Evolution X was built on this generation.
