As of early March 2015, accounting for all variants of the i-MiEV, including the two minicab versions sold in Japan, over 50,000 units had been sold. As of 2015 a dealer in one market was no longer selling the i-MiEV, which was replaced by the Outlander plug in hybrid. Rebadged variants of the i-MiEV are also sold by PSA as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero, mainly in Europe. MiEV is an acronym for Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle, and the car is the electric version of the Mitsubishi i.
