Mitsubishi expected mass production of lithium ion batteries from its battery plant coming online in April 2012 to reduce battery costs. As of August 2012 only 10 units had been sold in one market. The i-MiEV of 2012 was in its third year, sold in Japan, Europe, North America and Asia, as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero in Europe. Rebadged variants of the i-MiEV are also sold by PSA as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero, mainly in Europe.
