The eK of 2012 was in its seventh year as the second generation and the last before a new generation from NMKV, the joint venture of Nissan and Mitsubishi. Nissan had developed a successor of the eK that was to be rebadged as the Otti, and the second generation stayed on sale with the Otti until the new cars arrived in June 2013. The second generation eK Wagon was sold by Nissan as the Otti. The eK name is an abbreviation for excellent keijidosha and is meant to be pronounced ee kay.
