The short lived 2.3 liter diesel engine was replaced in 1988 with the larger 2.5 liter 4D56 unit. The Delica of 1988 was in its third year of the third generation, a monocoque van with a range of engines from a 1.4 liter up to a 2.4 liter petrol, and a 2.5 liter diesel and turbodiesel. The Delica has been sold as the L300 later L400 in Europe, Jamaica and New Zealand, Express and Starwagon in Australia, and plain Mitsubishi Van and Wagon in the United States.
