The ASX of 2021 was the twelfth model year of the first generation, still a subcompact crossover SUV and positioned beneath the Eclipse Cross and the Outlander. Production of the ASX continued in Japan for the global market and in China for the local market, while the second generation for Europe was being developed on the Renault Captur. The ASX was positioned below the Outlander in Mitsubishi's crossover SUV line up.
