The Nissan Serena is a minivan manufactured by Nissan, a model that joined the slightly larger Vanette. It was engineered by Nissan's Aichi Manufacturing Division and launched in 1991 as a compact passenger van, growing larger with each generation. Earlier versions had a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a live axle on leaf springs, while later generations are front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The Serena is designed to comply with the Japanese vehicle class, which restricts its length to 4.7 metres and its width to 1.7 metres, and it slots below the Nissan Elgrand in Japan as a smaller and cheaper alternative against the Toyota Noah, Honda Stepwgn and Mitsubishi Delica. Suzuki sold it as the Suzuki Landy between 2007 and 2022. The name comes from the Latin serenus, meaning clear and tranquil.
