The Lancia Megagamma is a small, almost one-box concept MPV designed by Italdesign and introduced at the 1978 Turin Motor Show. It used a front-engined, front-wheel-drive layout based on the Lancia Gamma platform, with a 2.5 litre SOHC flat-4 engine and Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, a drag coefficient of 0.34 and high seating points measured from both the floor and the pavement. Fiat, Lancia's parent company, judged it too risky and it never reached production, though the article calls it the conceptual birth mother of the MPV and minivan movement and says its tall, box-like styling returned in Giugiaro's later Fiat Panda of 1980 and Uno of 1983.
