The Citroën Xsara Picasso is a five-seat, five-door compact MPV that Citroën built from 1999 to 2012 on the platform of the Xsara hatchback. It reached showrooms in December 1999, and in June 2000 in the United Kingdom, where it became the best-selling MPV. Buyers could choose 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol engines or 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesels, most of them shared with the smaller Xsara, and a facelift in early 2004 brought new bumpers and updated engines. The seats at the back could be removed to leave van-like load space. Production ran at the PSA plant in Vigo, Spain, and from 2001 in Porto Real, Brazil, for Latin America. The Picasso name was licensed from the artist's family, which drew press attention at launch.
