For the 1966 model year the S-55 made its return as a stand alone model, the only S model to come back, again based on the Monterey and again offered solely as a two door hardtop and convertible. It had a bucket seat interior with a floor mounted shifter, unique body side striping and a single 428 cubic inch Super Marauder V8 of 345 horsepower. In 1967 it was demoted to a sports package. Its model years run from 1966 to 1967.
