For 1967 poor sales demoted the model to the S-55 Sports Package, while the Mercury full size line saw a major exterior update that changed flat fendered sides to a more rounded shape. During the model year the sports package was dropped, as the division concentrated its two door efforts on the smaller Cougar and the more luxurious Marquis. After 1967 the Marauder largely replaced the S-55. Its engine was the 428 cubic inch V8 of the Ford Galaxie 500 7-Litre.
