For 1962 the Monterey served as the entire full size Mercury line, as Mercury shifted the Meteor nameplate to its new intermediate sedan range. The six cylinder Monterey 6 was introduced, inheriting a 135 horsepower, 223 cubic inch Mileage Maker inline six. Stylists added a convex grille to distinguish the car from the Ford, and the Mercury S-55 was introduced as an option for two door Monterey hardtops and convertibles.
