For 1955 Mercury redesigned its model line, adding the Montclair as a premium sedan line above the Monterey. The listed retail price of the 1955 two door hardtop coupe was 2,631 dollars, and 71,588 were sold. The Montclair offered the Sun Valley, succeeding the Monterey Sun Valley of 1954, a transparent roofed model not widely accepted by consumers who found heat built up in the car during the summer. It was built with the V8 engines of the Mercury range.
