A new grille was the most noticeable difference between the 1942 and 1946 Mercurys, the first postwar Eight. In 1945 the Lincoln Mercury division would be established. A unique coupe utility variant of the Mercury was produced in Australia from 1946 to 1948, coded as the Model S9A in 1946. The Eight was the Mercury line's single model. Ford and Mercury still used the flathead V8 then. The Eight was produced in a full range of coupe, sedan, convertible and station wagon bodies.
