The Cyclone started as an option for the 1964 Mercury Comet, replacing the S-22 as the performance oriented version of the Comet model line. It featured a 289 cubic inch, 210 horsepower engine and a sporty look, with a spoked steering wheel and bucket seats, and some of the engine parts were chromed. For 1965 the engine was updated to a four barrel 289 of 200 horsepower. Its model years run from 1964 to 1965.
