Mercury Cougar (fifth generation)

Automobiles

For the 1980 model year Mercury downsized the Cougar XR-7 alongside its Thunderbird counterpart, which entered the mid size segment for the first time, shedding 15 inches in length, 4 inches in width and about 900 pounds. For 1981 Mercury added a standard trim Cougar replacing the Monarch as its mid size offering, sharing the body of the second generation Ford Granada. Both used the Ford Fox platform. Its model years run from 1980 to 1982.
