For 1965 the Comet received updated styling front and rear, including stacked headlights similar to what full sized Fords, Pontiacs and Cadillacs would use at the same time. It was still based on the Ford Falcon platform and shared its platform with the Ford Mustang. A Mercury Comet Caliente bought new in 1964 later accumulated over 562,000 documented miles in the hands of one owner. It was a squarer car than the 1963 model.
