The Mazda Navajo was the first generation Ford Explorer sold under a Mazda badge, a three door model offered by Mazda in North America from 1991. The 1991 Navajo became the first SUV to win the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award. It was offered only with four wheel drive at its launch, in the DX and the top LX trims, with a 4.0 liter V6 of 160 hp and a five speed manual standard. The Navajo name came from the Navajo people of the American Southwest.
