Automobile Magazine named the MX-5 its Automobile of the Year for 1990, and the car began a long run on the Car and Driver 10Best list that continued through 1992. In Japan the same car was sold as the Eunos Roadster. It was a simple two seater with an approximately even front to rear weight balance, an engine ahead of the driver and a Powerplant Frame truss joining the engine to the differential. The roadster was built at Mazda's Hiroshima plant.
