The CX-7 in 2011 was in its fifth year on sale, with the revised front and rear fascias of the 2009 update and Bluetooth and a multi information display in the dashboard. The 2.5 liter engine had a five speed automatic and the 2.3 liter turbo a six speed. Autocar Indonesia readers gave it their award for favorite medium SUV 4x4 for the third year in a row, covering 2009 to 2011. Mazda positioned it below the three row CX-9, with which it shared no platform.
