The CX-7 won the International Car of the Year award in the crossover category for 2007, in its first full year on sale as the 2007 model. It was powered by the 2.3 liter MZR DISI turbocharged four cylinder, as in the Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6, with a six speed Aisin automatic, 244 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque, and offered front wheel drive or Mazda's Active Torque Split all wheel drive. Mazda positioned it below the three row CX-9, with which it shared no platform.
