The decision to discontinue the CX-4 was made in early 2023, after deliveries fell below 10,000 units in 2022. The model had been made by FAW Mazda, a joint venture, through 2023, when Changan Mazda acquired 100 percent of the joint venture. It ended as a compact crossover SUV that had been produced and sold only in China since 2016. The CX-4 was positioned above the Mazda CX-3. The CX-4 is offered with a choice of two Skyactiv straight-four engines.
