The Statesman De Ville was the luxury model of the Statesman marque, the long-wheelbase sedan range that Holden launched on 22 July 1971 under a name that avoided the Holden badge. It was offered from the start beside the basic Statesman Custom, and all de Ville sedans featured the 308 cubic inch V8 engine as standard equipment, with the 350 V8 an option. The de Ville stayed in the range when the HJ series arrived in October 1974 with the Statesman Caprice as the new flagship, and it continued through the HX and HZ series to the final WB series, released in May 1980, whose first run comprised 5,450 De Villes before the Series II added 4,269 more. The HQ Statesman was exported to Japan as the Isuzu Statesman De Ville from 1973 to 1976.
