Peugeot 604

The Peugeot 604 is an executive car that the French manufacturer Peugeot produced from 1975 to 1985, and 153,252 of them were sold during its ten-year life. Pininfarina designed it, it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1975, and sales began in September 1975. It was based on the principles of the 504, using its bulkhead, doors and part of its floorpan, and it was usually powered by the 2.7 litre PRV V6 engine of 144 PS developed with Renault and Volvo, which made it Peugeot's first entry into the large luxury saloon market for 40 years, since the short-lived 601 of 1934. Launch price in the United States was 10,990 dollars. It inherited a supple ride and highly rated steering from the 504 and had unusually wide opening doors. Despite critical success it was a commercial failure, although Peugeot made a profit on each car because of the shared tooling, and it was also assembled by Kia in South Korea between 1979 and 1981.
