The Mitsubishi Dignity is a full-size luxury car that Mitsubishi Motors originally built from late 1999 to 2001 as the flagship of its domestic range, alongside the shorter Proudia, and reintroduced in 2012 as a rebadged fifth-generation Nissan Cima for Japanese buyers only. The name was meant to describe peerless grandeur and majestic stateliness, and in Japan it was sold through the Galant Shop dealer chain. The first generation, the S43A, was designed by Mitsubishi and co-manufactured with Hyundai of South Korea, which sold its own version as the Hyundai Equus. It had a transverse front-drive 4.5 litre 8A80 GDi V8 making 280 PS, an extended Proudia body, and driver support features such as lane monitoring cameras and a lidar adaptive cruise control; Prince Akishino used one. Only about fifteen months of sales followed its February 2000 launch before the maker's financial difficulties ended both models. The 2012 second generation used Nissan's 3.5 litre VQ35HR V6, came only in VIP trim, and sold just 98 cars up to February 2015 before the name ended again in November 2016.
