John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce

Automobiles

John Lennon ordered this Rolls-Royce Phantom V limousine in December 1964 from a Maidenhead dealer, with Mulliner Park Ward coachwork on a Crewe-built chassis, and took delivery in June 1965 in matte black. After damage on location in Spain it was repainted bright yellow in 1967 and decorated with Romany floral and zodiac motifs by the artist Steve Weaver, becoming a celebrated art car. Lennon and Yoko Ono gave it to the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in 1977, it sold at Sotheby's in 1985 for a record auction price, and it now belongs to the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria.
